Why Piracy is Good

The Internet has essentially made everything free and in doing so has overhauled existing business models.  Let’s be real, chasing each and every pirate for money just isn’t realistic anymore.

Companies understand the difficulty in monetizing goods that we can already get for free, and instead appeal to our desire for convenience and quality.  I myself am all for supporting artists, yet I download music and stream movies because it’s easier and faster than having to go out.  At the same time, I hate having to worry about spyware, viruses, or low quality handycam movies after hours of downloading. Enter Netflix, or similar services.  A meagre $8/month allows me to watch all I want without the headaches, it’s no wonder why Blockbuster is going out of business.

As a producer of digital goods, free doesn’t necessarily pay the bills, but as a consumer, free has legally given us more services for less.
